You are on the ADHD Awareness Month!
A month to make people aware of ADHD and to make ADHDers aware of their greatness
Do you know that if you have ADHD, there's an awareness month just for you?
Yes, we're talking about ADHD Awareness Month, which takes place every October. It's a global initiative dedicated to fostering discussions and spreading information about ADHD. The goal is to reduce stigma, promote understanding, and educate people worldwide about what it means to live with ADHD.
One of the main reasons the ADHD International Alliance exists is precisely to raise awareness about ADHD, which is why we're so excited about the start of this month. We have an extra reason to celebrate: this month marks one year since our first post on Threads, which was on October 26, 2023.
It's a happy coincidence that we're celebrating one year of the ADHD International Alliance during ADHD Awareness Month. Funny enough, last year, we weren’t even aware that we were founding an organization right in the middle of this special month. But as you know, awareness can be a challenge in our lives, and it makes sense that an organization led by people with ADHD would reflect some of our unique traits.
In fact, the Alliance was founded two years before our debut on Threads. We first launched on X (formerly Twitter) and continued trying to build an audience there despite the bizarre algorithms and media policies that sidelined us, as we refused to pay for blue checkmarks. From the start, we’ve been against sponsored actions, relying instead on organic, natural growth.
And soon we gave up, procrastinating new strategies for the Alliance for more than two years, until we found Threads. That’s why we just count October 26 as our birthday!
Today, we are a community of over 43,000 members, reaching almost every country in the world and every single U.S. state. Recently, we were thrilled to register our first followers from Wyoming and North Dakota.
But the ADHD International Alliance is about much more than just numbers or social media engagement. This is a community that genuinely aims to make a difference in your life—to provide strategies for managing your ADHD effectively, to help you feel proud of your ADHD, and to remind you that you can have ADHD and still lead a wonderful life.
And you deserve respect for your symptoms. Whether or not people without ADHD understand your struggles, or continue to make ignorant remarks like "everyone is a little ADHD" or "there's no such thing as adult ADHD."
Only those who live with ADHD every day truly understand what it's like. ADHD Awareness Month isn’t just about raising awareness about ADHD in society—it’s also about helping people with ADHD to recognize how great we are, just as we are.
May October be a great month for all of us.
Thank you for staying with me and the ADHD International Alliance.
