Challenging our ADHD fears
To start, always remember that failure is not a reflection of your worth
Imagine launching a venture, attracting significant investors, yet still not turning a profit after half a decade. Then comes a live interview where you're asked, "Your company's deficit hit $12 million this year."
With a smile, you explain that you're reinvesting for long-term results.
The strategy employed by Jeff Bezos has been emulated by countless prosperous enterprises, steering clear of conventional success metrics like shareholder payouts. Instead, they focused on crafting an unbeatable product that rewards those who believe in strategic foresight.
Much like the approach from Bezos, every one of us who needs to manage ADHD along our lives can benefit from a similar strategy. Rather than fixating on conventional measures of success, such as immediate productivity rates, we can focus on building a foundation for long-term achievement.
By prioritizing efforts to strengthen executive functioning skills, establish effective routines, and invest in strategies for sustained focus and motivation, we can position ourselves for enduring success despite initial setbacks.
Let's consider the challenge of launching a project, a circumstance that often leads to mental distractions at every turn. Under such complicated patterns, adopting a strategic approach becomes paramount for us. Just as a business leader navigates obstacles by refining their leveraging resources, we need to develop real strategies to overcome initiation difficulties.
Every start is a challenge, for ADHDers and everyone else. The difference is that we freeze instead of normally following the path towards the next steps and stages.
It's not enough the common advice about breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable steps, utilizing external cues or reminders, and implementing structured routines. Although they are correct, they have become so commonplace that they don't help too much with an ADHD mind.
We can only gradually build momentum and embark on a journey towards productivity and success if we somehow change the emotions we associate with starting a project or a task. We know what to do; we only need to change the emotions we associate with them. Or the fear we so often associate with them.
This fear often holds us back from reaching our full potential. It whispers in our ears, convincing us that we're not capable, that we will inevitably mess up, or that our efforts won't be good enough. It creates a barrier between us and our goals, trapping us in a cycle of procrastination and avoidance.
We must recognize that failure is not a reflection of our worth but rather an opportunity for growth and learning. We must embrace the discomfort of uncertainty and recognize that it's a natural part of the journey toward success.
By challenging our fears and pushing past our comfort zones, we can unlock our true potential and discover what we're truly capable of achieving. It won't be easy, and there will undoubtedly be setbacks along the way, but with courage and perseverance, we can silence the voice of fear and move forward, harnessing our talents with confidence and determination.
